Igniting the World from Your Corner

September 27, 2025 By Segun Solomon

It’s a great honor to stand before you today at Techignition, here in Osogbo—a city filled with history, creativity, and a generation that I believe is ready to shape the future. When I look around this room, I don’t just see young adults; I see innovators, problem solvers, and dreamers whose ideas can set the world on fire—in the best way possible.

Our theme today, “Igniting the World from Your Corners,” is both a challenge and a reminder: you don’t need to be in Silicon Valley, London, or Lagos to make global impact. You can start right here, in your corner.

Let me share three truths about igniting the world from wherever you are:

1. Your Corner is Enough

Every great movement began somewhere small. The light bulb didn’t come from a grand laboratory; it started in Thomas Edison’s workshop. Facebook didn’t start as a global platform; it started in a dorm room. Andela, Paystack, Flutterwave—companies impacting millions—began in corners that didn’t look powerful at the time.

Your corner—Osogbo, your laptop, your skill, your small circle of friends—is enough to start something powerful. Don’t wait until you “arrive.” Start where you are.

2. Technology is Your Fire

What gives us the power to ignite the world today is technology. With a smartphone, a line of code, a creative design, or a simple idea turned into a digital solution, you can reach people across continents.

Think about it:

  • A video recorded in Osogbo today can go viral in New York by tomorrow.

  • An app written on your computer can solve problems in Nairobi, Accra, or Johannesburg.

  • A solution to a local challenge—like waste management, access to education, or digital payments—can inspire others globally.

The fire in your hand is technology. The question is: how will you use it?

3. Impact is Greater than Location

What really changes the world is not where you are, but what you do with what you have. Your corner is your launchpad, not your limitation.

If you choose to serve people, to solve problems, to share knowledge, you are already igniting the world. The ripple effect of your contribution—no matter how small—travels further than you imagine.

Remember: Google started with two students trying to organize the world’s information. You too can begin with something small, but meaningful, right here.

So how do you ignite the world from your corner?

1. Start small.

Don’t despise humble beginnings—start the blog, code the app, design the prototype.

2. Stay consistent.

Fire only grows if you feed it. Consistency turns sparks into flames.

3. Collaborate.

A single spark is good, but when sparks come together, they set the whole forest alight. Work with others, share ideas, build communities.

4. Think impact, not just income.

Money will follow value, but value must come first. Solve a problem worth solving.

Friends, you don’t need to be everywhere to touch everywhere. You don’t need to wait for permission to start—you already have what it takes.

The world is waiting for the spark that only you can bring. Imagine what will happen if every young person in this room lights up their corner—Osogbo, Nigeria, Africa, and the world will shine brighter than ever before.

So, I leave you with this: Don’t wait for the world to ignite you. Ignite the world from your corner.

Thank you
